Update: Operation First Entry

Hello Troops,

Just a little photo update of the battle sister I am entering.

I am still trying to figure out how to take nice photos.  The shading isn't showing too well with my shots so far.  Any suggestions or tips on photo taking ?

I have 2 hours into the figures so far.  With the deadline of a contest on the horizon ..... motivation is high !

Be safe ...... enjoy the pictures.

Operation First Entry

Hello Troops,

After posting my last post earlier today I dusted off the brushes.

I found some of my minis that were at various stages and decided to enter 3 of them at the Richmond IPMS show at the end of February.  This way I have a goal, deadline and another reason to attend.

I chose a Black Templar Sergeant, a female Battle Sister and a Tau fire warrior.

The Black Templar is 99% complete, just some touch ups left to do. It is one of the first minis that I took my time on and didn't rush through.

The battle sister is in the initial paint placing as I call it. The dark colors are placed first and then lighter colors  and eventually highlighting.  I believe she is from the Warhammer line.  Nice miniature and will look great !  I have two more of these similiar warriors from the Mordheim line that I would like to paint in the same color theme.

The Tau Fire Warrior is planned to have a winter camouflage theme.  I need to order some various greys to assist in finishing it.  The gray pots I did have have dried out.  Since their fates are sealed I decided to wash out the pots and keep for terrain or mix pots.  Anyone ever do that ?  I was thinking about creating a Tau detachment battling some Cadians on a winter planet of some type.  That is just a thought right now.

The Old Dominion Open is February 2, 2010.  It will be the first show that I enter anything.  I am looking forward to it ....

Let me know what you think of the pictures.  Any hints or suggestions ... let me know.  I like the feedback.

Be safe ....

Joe

Random Rainy Day thoughts

Hello Troops,

Rainy and cold here in Virginia, USA today.

The family is taking a nap and I had some thoughts to post.  I figured some would have some comments.

My main thought/question(s) of the day is ...

What do you do to motivate yourself to paint, build or plan ?

What special ideas or things get you motivated when in a slump ?

Two random thoughts that I felt I would throw out there.

** Warm welcome to the newest member ..... Geordie the Exiled Fog **
** Watchtower78 ... I am gonna download your podcasts to my Ipod and listen in, I will let you know !"

Be safe all .....

Warm weather assistance

Greetings troops,

Mother nature is kind for allowing a rather "warm" day if you will for the month of January.  Mid 50's can allow for some primer painting and yes, I dare to say it some front yard maintenance.

Hopefully I can sneak away and plan some prep time before priming some models for the colder, yuckier portions of the week.

On a minor side note, a warm welcome to Watchtower78 and Mik for joining the ranks recently.  I also installed a hit counter with some success.  As of this posting I have had approx. 65 hits from 2 different countries.  It is great to see the roster rolls add new members.

I should be able to get some pictures up later this evening ..... say tuned.

Task 1 for 1/10

Greetings Troopers

I wanted to show you the start point for Task 1 for this month.  As a reminder to the new readers, the command squads are complete.  This is the support platoon for my glider company.  I was painting and basing when school started and paused production.

The other pause in picture posting was the digital camera breaking.  One of the great blogging experiences is looking at fellow bloggers works.  So without pics it can be hard to have productive and interesting projects post.

The following pictures are the bazooka squad of my support platoon.  Please feel free to leave any constructive comments, all comments are good ... I learn from everyone.

And for your viewing pleasure ... here are the command stands ....

If you have any tips regarding photo taking, I could use em.  I am not sure if its my painting or the picture taking.

WIP for the month of January

Greetings troops,

2nd post of the month will be addressing what I have in store for the month of January.

Task 1

The completion of my support platoon for my FOW army. It was the last project I was working on before it was stalled this fall due to school. The CO and XO stands have been finished and look bored with no troops to command.

Task 2

IN order not to become "bored", for lack of a better term, I thought maybe having two different theme projects going would allow for the painting not to get too old. I have some Battletech mechs sitting bare and thought about hitting them up with the primer and paint. Any ideas ?

Task 3

Get one game in this month ..... Whether it is RPG, card game or mini game ... at least 1

I hope everyone is having a good start to a happy new year.

District 9

Greeting Troops,

First post of the year. I hope to have more posts than last year so here starts that New Years resolution. I worked the fire station on New Years day, so with that it was Holiday routine as we call it. Check the equipment, clean the station and the rest of the day is yours.

One of the fellows brought in his blu-ray player and some movies. The typical array of comedies, horror and such were available for our viewing pleasure.

Being a big sci-fan, I voted for District 9. Since most of us hadn't seen the movie, it won out and placed in the player as the first movie.

I must say that it was a great movie. Well written, good mix of a documentary feel as well as first person accounts allowed for the movie to flow. Action was well spread out and constant. The computer effects and special effects were not over the top and did not look out of place at all.

If you have not seen this movie, you need to place it on your to see list for 2010.

If you have seen it ... let me know what you think .....

Be safe ...
