Still here. Although I haven't had much posting time on the blog. Much on the plate of life for sure.

My wife and I have had the blessing of our second child Sophia being born earlier this week. She is a beautiful baby and we are extremely happy that she has joined our family. My oldest daughter and dog seem especially happy. So as you can imagine we have our hands full in the house at this time.

I am diligently working on 2 commissions as we speak. I posted earlier about them. Steve of WWPD fame and friend of mine has trusted me with his Bolt Action Russian Infantry. I am proud to say I have presented him with 2/3's of the 57 man set from Plastic Soldier Company. I am working on his 3rd squad of 15 men as I type. I still have his Heavy Weapons Support and 45 mm AT gun in que.

The second commission of mine is for my friend Judson of the Bolt Action WWPD website fame. I have finished 10 of his British Infantry for Cold Wars, PA next month. I will also be getting to him 4 British Engineers and 1 British Commando carrying a wounded fellow. I still am working on 15 of his British infantry and have a mortar team as well as a 17 pounder in que for him.

I will be getting pictures up of the finished British soon most likely in the next couple of days. I will also be posting Wargaming Wednesday photos too! I want to try and work on the ongoing Savage Mezz Zombie story and get a posting out as well soon. Thank you so much for being patient.

I do have a request from my readers. Since GW renamed all the paints in their line I am a touch lost looking for my favorites. I am looking for a wash that is purple in nature. I believe it used to be called Leviathan? Can anyone help me with the new name of it ?

I look forward to getting some more post out to you, the readers! Enjoy

I am still here! I have been hiding from my Xbox 360 and getting to tons of painting lately. I have two commissions going as we speak. My friend Steve's Russian Infantry, HMG teams, Antitank teams and 45mm antitank guns. I have 2/3 of his infantry completed at this point of time. These Russians multiple like feeding gremlins after midnight.

My friend Judson's British are being worked on as Russian soldiers dry. I am currently working on his British Infantry for Cold Wars in March. I also have his British Engineers, Mortar team and a 17 pdr in tow.

I am also entering my Warlord Viking for the Saga painting contest on the WWPD Tapestry site. Being a WWPD staff member, I am not allowed to win anything and that is perfectly fine with me. I figured I would add it to the fray to get other's competitive juices flowing.

Here are 2/3rds of the Russian Infantry, with 19 poses for 57 men in one set. DEAL!

I am proud to announce my FIRST 2013 hobby resolution has been accomplished! I just ordered my book copy of Force on Force produced by Ambush Alley Games and Osprey Publishing. It has been on my convention playlist for some time BUT it seems overly popular and ALWAYS booked. Actually I would love to run a game using Force On Force someday at a convention. With our newest little one coming soon this would be more of a long term goal. Look to 2014 at a convention near you, maybe ;)

The book has been ordered and should be here next week sometime. I can't wait to get my hands on it and get reading. I believe I will be using 15mm forces for now. There are some great 15mm modern lines out there! Such companies as Rebel Minis, QRF Models and Peter Pig have excellent models for modern military geekness. I can't wait to see what direction this leads.
Achievement Unlocked !

As we hit the end of the year and holiday seasons I wish to extend a Happy New Year! I am lucky to be able to share our hobby with you the reader. This year has been a busy one indeed. Much gaming and painting along with 3 gaming conventions kept my gaming geekness happy.

No reason to go over my gaming year since you have been following along. I wanted to look towards the future and make some New Yea gaming resolutions. So join along and smile, laugh or cry. We all know we have similar wants and goals year after year.

New Rulesets

Really ? Yes, I know what you are thinking. How could you add more rulesets to your gaming plate. It's true that I already have Flames of War, Bolt Action and Saga on my bookshelf. My painting que is chocked full of Americans/Russians/British/Germans for Bolt Action and Vikings for Saga. I can say that I do not one one gamer who isn't looking ahead for his or her next "fix". so here are some of my 2013 targets.

Force on Force - Osprey Publishing's modern warfare rulesets has been on my list for some time. I have numerous model companies products in line of sight for future growth. I am still a tad torn to what scale to go though. Right now it is a push/shove between 15mm and 25mm. They have numerous periods to quench your history thirst. I just want to get my feet in the door and start with the main ruleset! Every time I attempted to find a game at any convention it was full. It seems to be a solid ruleset with a great following.

Infinity - Science Fiction skirmish rules? Yes please! With numerous factions for any gamer preference along with a low model count needed to start makes for a great game. It has a huge following and great forums. Again, I will get a rule book and move from there.

28mm Viking army completed for Saga

28mm American army completed for Bolt Action

28mm German army completed for Bolt Action

15 or 28mm modern forces for Force On Force or Savage Worlds

New commission work - 2012 started a new chapter for me as a painter for hire. I take projects one at a time and always strive for customer satisfaction. I look forward to providing services again this year

Zombies - using Savage World rules and or Force On Force as well. I am still on the fence for scale but I figure it will be 15mm for now. I wouldn't be surprised to find 28mm figures slowly get painted as well.

Blog posts - I am gonna try for at least 1 to 2 posts a week. Last year was a busy year and it affected my postings. I appreciate your patience. I do hope to make the Savage World Zombie story line a bi-weekly post. It's one of the more popular posts for the blog!

These are some of the more forward goals I have for the year. Please feel free to share your own. Together, we can keep each other on track.

A delayed post due to my limit being reached in the GB storage of the google blog universe ! I had to come up with other options and hopefully a solution to the madness. Another Wednesday of Wargaming for the masses. On to the photos ...

These photos are from a 28mm war games board at Historicon 2012. They were home grown rules per the host in the third picture. I was impressed with his use of common models and toys to allow a huge feast for the gaming eyes. I was in such a blur of photos I forgot to ask if it was a modern game or zombie fest type game. Either way enjoy.
Invasion was a loose term. This invasion was not an army of soldiers or a swarm of insects. It was "humans" attacking humans. Not violence in the form of weapons but fear and the unknown. The dead were spreading at an alarming rate. People were looking towards the government for answers they did not have. Defend in place began for most, survival was on everyone's mind.

Who would have thought those doomsday prep people had the right idea! Tom thought to himself as he finished boarding up the last of his first floor windows. The walkers seemed to be everywhere these days. The first step was to board up the house and figure out his next move. Many people panicked and ran for the hills. Unfortunately this hasty reaction caused more panic and congestion to all roadways. The only thing it did seem to do was add targets of opportunity to the walkers. Running with no plan, supplies or destination was worse than defending in place for the moment.

Jimmy didn't know how it all happened. He lost his partner to an attack weeks ago before the outbreak was declared official. He was lucky enough to be cleared before the hospital was locked down. The hospital was locked down and those unfortunate still to be inside have either been consumed, infected and dying or hiding until someone decided to move attempt rescues. Someone ... A vague term but honest. The government was trying to keep control. Military bases had become strongholds. The more secured government buildings have also done the same. Not true regarding anything else. The no man zones consist of anything else not military base or secured government areas. The last emergency messages over television and radio advised stay in place. Easier said than done.

Jimmy was glad it was just him and his roommate Kyle. Kyle was also a firefighter and EMT in the same department. Kyle was on top of the roof standing watch while Jimmy finished boarding up the first floor openings. As important as it was to board up the house, it produced noise which attracted the walkers. Noise was one of the easiest ways to draw attention these days. Noise for survival was a double edge sword that needed to be faced. At least today's task was completed with no major delays or "visitors".

The house was easy to defend being on the corner of the neighborhood street. The two level house was boarded up as tight as they could manage on the first floor. They took the stairs out and place an extension ladder as their means of accessing the 2nd floor. The ladder was hooked up with a pulley and rope to extend and retract it for safety. Power had not worked for some time now that chaos had consumed much of the population. Candles and camping stoves are now king. The defense of the house also had a roof access flap in the roof to be able to use the roof as an observation post. Not too shabby for a bunch of firefighters.

It got dark quick but it was Mother Nature that had a hand in that. The ladder was raised for the night and the guys decided to settle in for the night. It was amazing how silent the neighborhood became at night. Dim lights from candles and flashlights appeared throughout various houses. Some house remained dark and the occasional scream or walker moan filled the void.

Kyle opened up a can of beef ravioli and passed it to Jimmy. They agreed to one can a piece for the next couple of nights till they were able to come up to some ideas or options. Jimmy took a fork full of cold ravioli and peered through the window blinds. Kyle moved over to him and looked put the window. Nothing but the occasional walker and abandoned streets once active. "What ya thinking Jimmy?" Kyle muttered.

As any good gamer knows, Bolt Action has arrived and being welcomed with open arms. I have been fortunate to be a part of WWPD's BoltAction.net as well as being comissioned for painting for Judson's British Commonwealth (hit the table at Fall In) and now Steve's Russians. My personal army at this time is US Airborne and US Infantry as well as some FJ's.

Steve's Russians are from PSC's 28mm line. They clean up fast, are detailed to make painting easy and overall get two thumbs up from me. Here is the Combat Medic I did a trial run on recently.
I use the Flames of War paint guide for Russian uniforms. This female medic has the Khaki uniform color, which is an alternative color for the Russians. Keep an eye out for more WIPS of Steve's Russians.

The other night I was able to get a Flames of War game in with my buddy Steve. It was actually my first V3 game in some time and I was excited to get my GIs on the table once again.

I placed these armored mortars in the tree line to support my advancing units. They did a decent job with the smoke support I based my movement on. Smoke is always an option to be used and forces many players in moving units and losing ROF shots.

This was my "right hook". Three 75mm Shermans and two 76mm Shermans were supporting my Armor Infantry platoon's advance on the right flank. I also included the CO in a jeep to keep the boys moving.

My engineers were deployed as far forward as I could in a field. My second Armored Infantry platoon remained mounted and deployed in the field as well. It was not going to be an easy assault since the stubborn Germans were dug in and had a looming ambush as well.

The right flanks plan was to use the road for rapid movement and take advantage of the new distances in V3. Since the tanks were in the woods, bog checks were rolled. Of course, in good noob fashion, my 76 Shermans bogged.

The right flank's movement was hampered by the reserve roll deployment of a stug platoon. I moved the halftracks off the road and ordered them hull down. This allowed my supporting tanks to move up fast and push forward. Knowing my 75s had little to no chance of popping stugs front armor, I fired smoke and hit one target.

I decided to move my armored infantry forward with machine guns blazing. Armored Rifles are new to me and I believe I got transport tunnel vision. Smoke failed to deploy and things got SNAFU very quickly.

Steve's German forces unleashed a volley of fire from Hertz' and PAK 40s. My failed smoke barrage and failed pinning machine fire allowed carnage. Halftracks exploded, tossing surviving troops out. Steve's dug in infantry poured machine gun fire into the wounded ranks and annihilated the remaining platoon. Ugh ... lesson learned the hard way.

I thought I would get this post out for the week since I am a tad horrible on the "day subject" post. Although I have dropped themed days, I figured to keep this one and share the hobby from my point of view. We all know that the favorite thing of us gamers is to haggle over pictures.

So without further delay, I introduce to you gamers Wargaming Wednesday - Early !

The above picture says it all. I cannot agree with it more. I am sure all you gamers out there can agree that our wives, girlfriends and families want us to be happy and anticipate our arrival home with gamer loot.
This board involved some cool 28mm Victorian Steampunk armies. Forgive me for not knowing the rule sets or figure involved. It was a popular table indeed and never empty. If you have any further information or know what this game detailed please comment below !
The above beauty is soon to be part of some AARs of my buddy Steve and I. We played some Flames of War the other evening and came down to a close game loss for me 3-4. Brutal of a game and another awesome learning experience at the hands of the jedi master. I am building up my armored forces into an armored rifle company. I already have the infantry and armor units so the only thing left is the half tracks for the infantry !

Stay tuned for the recent AAR battle I will be posting this week along with Steve.

Greetings,

I was able to get another book read recently and added it to my book count for the year. The Hobbit was a novel I read years ago and quite frankly enjoyed every time I have picked it up. Over the years I have been able to read it numerous times, seen as a stage production and await Peter Jackson's epic screen production.

J.R.R. Tolkien's work was first published in 1937 (UK) and was well accepted. The novel won the Carnegie Medal as well as a prize from the New York Herald Tribune in the juvenile fiction category. The first edition was 310 pages as my e-reader version was about 239 "pages".

The Hobbit was written in a way that seemed it was a story being shared over some ale in a small medevial tavern. It flowed smoothly and allowed the reader to never slip out of the plot or lose interest.

Bilbo Baggins is a simple hobbit as they come. His love of home, company, meals and conversation is the norm of his life in the Hollow. It all changes when Gandalf shows up and "convinces" Bilbo to host a party. And the adventure begins !

I am not going to ruin the plot or ending. I am only recommending a new book to re-read or start !

5 out of 5 Hobbit feet !

Enjoy ...
The above photo is of my friend Steve of WWPD fame. This is one of the boards for Nationals at Historicon 2012. I can't remember exactly where he ranked but I believe it was in the top 15. As you can see it was a winter board and one of many that the I95 guys put together. I have participated in many I95 tournaments and have to say their boards are awesome.

This board is a group of gents playing Dystopian Wars. Not a fancy board to say the least but a popular one. I can say the models of the naval forces are awesome. I am not sold on the land forces though. I have caught wind that they have also started a 28mm skirmish game as well. Looks cool but I do not have anyone nearby that plays any of it. So I am not going to look at them, lol.

I have been recently debating how to improve my blog and came up to some thoughts on how things are running. Hear me out and feel free to add, subtract or suggest things. It is after all your blog. Your my readers and target audiences. Speak out !

Here are some things I am debating or changing.

Backgrounds - I decided to make the blog easy on the eyes. Simple colors, fonts and layout to allow the blog post to stick out and be easy to read and enjoy.

Sidebar gadgets. I cleaned up the list of sidebar items on the right hand side of the blog. It was cluttered and just too much to keep track of.

Content themed days. I believe I have gotten carried away with the themed days. For example Zombie Fridays, Savage Saturdays and the like. I had too much going in my mind. I have decided to just supply to you various posts with no themed days. Please let me know if you want more or less of something. I am open to suggestions. I have just felt that placing weekly themed items just mad my posts and such watered down just to make the "deadline".

These were the major points I have been debating and thinking about. I hope to be able to make quality posts again and allow you the reader the enjoyment of our hobby. I love being able to share and interact with you all on this blog and through yours as well.

Thanks again for being a fellow "follower" !!!

The other day Steve-O and I was able to dive into the new tabletop game Star Wars X-Wing Miniature Game from Fantasy Flight Games. I know what your thinking and I did hear the rabble rabble from 4th platoon in the rear. The beloved Star Wars has had numerous failures in the gaming market, most notably in the video game market.

First off, the miniatures are excellent. The starter set comes with two TIE fighters and one X-Wing fighter. The game pieces are well made and lots of gaming goodies. You can buy single fighters as well to bolster your forces. And don't gag on the prices. A single ship comes with the fighter of choice, flight stand, numerous pilot cards, tokens and extras to make it worth it.

If you want to see the basics and such visit the above link. If you want to see Steve-O's review of our AAR visit him at WWPD.
Steve's X-Wing finally repaired itself and decided to get back into the fight. Red 4 was struck by laser fire from Flight A and had shield failure. The rookie lined up the fighter and hit ferociously. Red 4 turned over slightly and exploded into a huge fireball.
Y-Wing Gold 1 soon joined his comrade as the TIE Advance unleashed a volley of torpedoes on the flying tank. Fire and metal exploded into the asteroid field. Red 5 scored a revenge kill on the wounded TIE in Flight A but it was too late. The wounded X-Wing did not escape. The Imperials had won this battle.
I hope you enjoyed the AAR. This is an awesome game and I am sure to add it to my collection.

Here is some 28mm action for you the reader. As you have already identified, these are US forces in the above picture. Force on Force was an extremely popular game rule system at Historicon 2012. As I have reported before I was unable to get into the game and didn't preregister for it. No one appeared to drop out of the game ... Ugh!

I am not sure what line of figures or vehicles are used in the above picture. I can tell you that each force had its own objectives and made for a very interesting game board with chaos rampant throughout.
This beautiful landscape was for an awesome game of Mars:1889. I believe that is the game set rules being used. Either way this table was amazing. The miniatures were excellent and it seemed to be a popular table for the time I was at Historicon.
No where to go but down. I hopped down and began my descend to the forest floor. My mind was racing. Where do I go and what do I do ? Calm down and breath. First things first. Shelter and food before it gets dark.

I head down the tree and begin to collect wood for shelter, tools and possibly a fire. The forest thinned out and begin to clear towards a beach and waterfront. Water being a source of food and crop water made my decision to camp this area first very easy. I chose a hill nearby and begin the process.

I took the small pile of wood and fashioned a pick head axe to dig into the hill. After about an hour I made a decent head way into the hill. I placed some walls towards the front and rested. After a quick stop I looked towards the back of cave shelter and saw something that appeared to be coal.

Coal ! Coal means everything to my survival. And a quick glance out of the cave signaled it was none too soon. The sun was almost down. I quickly assembled some torches and lit one for some light in the shelter.

The sun was setting and with that some odd things began to stir. Spiders with red eyes, zombie looking creatures and skeletons with bows appeared out of the ground. I quickly shut up the cave and sat in the corner with the torch light. What the heck did I stumble in ?

This lovely board was a 28mm WWI theme at Historicon 2012. The picture does not do it justice. This photo was taken before major forces were deployed and moved forward. This table was always full and plenty of action !!

Keep the Paint flowing and the Dice rolling !

I was able to get a 15mm run with Bolt Action rules the other night at WWPD HQ. Steve ran the french while I was commanding the Germans. You can catch his awesome AAR at the WWPD Bolt Action website ... Bolt Action .Net
